Some Brief Thoughts On Getting Mathematics Tuition For Your Child

Tags: , ,

Do you have a child who is currently having trouble with mathematics at school? Are they getting poor grades on a consistent basis because they simply struggle with the subject? If this is the case, it might well be a good idea to get some personal maths tuition for your child in order to aid their studies. If you do choose to go down this road, you will have a number of things to consider first.

The first thing you will need to consider will be how much you are willing to spend on the personal lessons. Math tuition costs will vary depending upon the level of mathematics that is required to be taught. As such, it is a good idea to do some research and to find some different quotes from different tutors to see what might work for you.

In addition, it is very important that you actually get a tutor who your child will be comfortable with. This point cannot be overstated, and if they are getting taught by someone who they do not feel comfortable around, then their learning is bound to be affected. It is therefore extremely important that you meet any potential tutor to gauge whether or not they are going to be suitable for your needs.

Of course, another important consideration that you will have will be in setting up an environment that is conducive to helping your child to work properly. As such, it is a good idea if you have an office at your home where they can work. If not, any area, such as a bedroom, where there is a workstation desk and relevant space for books and other materials will be suitable.

Of course, you might also consider the idea of sending your child off to the tutors house for the personal lessons. While you may feel more comfortable with having your child under your own roof, this is a great way of assuring that the working environment that your child is entering is very good. Of course, the end goal will be to improve your child’s mathematics skills and so you should choose the place where their learning will be most productive.

Finally, you will also want to make sure that any teacher you get is fully certified to be teaching your child. As such, you should always worked through reputable companies who offer tutors based on their experience and teaching skills.

These are just a few basic thoughts that you might have when looking for maths tutors for your child.

Plus you will most likely purchase all the books needed for the rest of your nursing school courses. I had to make two trips to my car just to get all the books and supplies.

There is an immense amount of information presented. The processing of your picture identification for admittance to the hospitals, clinics and the ordering of the Community and School of Nursing uniform and course materials are the most important aspects of this first day. This orientation will most likely not be repeated for anyone unable to attend so it is imperative that you not schedule anything else to do for that day.

NURSING SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS

Tags: , , ,

Before you can even be allowed into Nursing School most programs will require that you pass what is called a TEAS test (Testing of Essential Academic Skills). This is a multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. It is an exam for Regular Prelicensure and Accelerated Prelicensure BSN degrees. Some schools at the Junior College level require that students take what is called a HESI exam (Health Education Systems Exam). These tests may vary by state, so check with your admissions office and see which exam will be required for you to take to gain entrance to your schools nursing program.

The TEAS exam should be easy for any future graduate to master as it covers content that is taught in most high schools grades 10-12. If you need a refresher course, you can look at the schools academic website to find study materials or preparatory course that can help you prepare for this type of test.

Both of these exams whether at the 4-year or Junior college level are designed to see where you stand as far as academic excellence when you apply to the Bachelor of Science program for Nursing. It also ensures you have the basic math, science, reading and English skills needed to be successful throughout the nursing program.

Other requirements for most nursing programs also include the following:

  • a standard background check and drug screening
  • you must pass a physical examination
  • up to date Tetanus vaccinations
  • proof of immunizations from rubella, varicella and hepatitis B
  • school will require you carry some type of malpractice insurance
  • Proof of current CPR certificate for adult, child and infant

The background check is a big deal. You should make sure that there is nothing in your background such as felony convictions for violent crimes, drug and/or alcohol convictions because the majority of the time you will not be allowed into any program. Nurses work with children, the sick and elderly and must be trusted around such vulnerable members of our society. It might be a good idea for you to perform you own background check first before applying to any nursing program.

I know all of these requirements can be a little overwhelming but they are designed to make the school is getting the best and brightest students. Nurses will be trusted to work with some of our most vulnerable members of society and should have good social skills and be able to maintain a professional manner at all times. When you are accepted into your schools nursing program, you will then become a representative of the school to the community at large and should maintain a social and professional demeanor at all times.

Some junior colleges offer Bachelor of Science in Nursing and some only offer Assciates, so depending on the college, you might not have to transfer at all and you will be able to do all your education at that particular college.

What is the advantage of having a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as opposed to an Associate of Science in Nursing? There is a big difference: Some hospitals pay more for Bachelors, some hospitals will only accept nurses with Bachelors, you cannot work in research or teach without a Bachelors degree and you cannot be in management without a Bachelors degree.

MEDICATION DOSAGE CALCULATION TEST

Tags: , , ,

Medication Dosage Calculation Test

Nursing schools have to make sure that they produce nurses that will be able to calculate medications in order to prevent medication errors. A nurse has to be able to calculate drip rates, know the metric conversion and how much oral medication to dispense. Most nursing students have to take a medication dosage calculation test (med dose) before each semester begins. A score of at least 90%-95% has to be obtained in order to move on to the next semester. That means you can only miss 1-2 questions on your math test. Most nurses are not comfortable with taking these math tests. Today, there are automative IV pumps that control drip rates and pharmacists that determine the volume of a medication based on weight. If you conquer these few rules that this article mentions, then passing the med dose test every semester should not be a problem.

Here are a few charts that you should already have learned in grade school through high school. Metric conversions will be on the majority of the med dose tests. Nursing schools want to make sure that you have mastered this. There are three types of medication measurement systems. First is the metric system which is the most commonly used in schools and hospitals. The health professional must be meticulous in converting those measurements into the proper amount of liquid or solid medication that a patient requires. This takes converting from or within one or more of the three systems of measurements that health professionals use. The Apothecary system is one of the oldest system of pharmacologic measurements. It’s expressed in roman numerals and special symbols. A unit of liquid measure is a minim and a unit for weight is a grain. You may even see some roman numeric symbols written in medication orders. Last, the household system is less accurate measurement that is based upon drops, teaspoons, tablespoons, cups and glasses.

Medications are prescribed in a specific amount or weight per volume. For example a single tablet has 100mg of medication; the volume of that tablet is 1. A medication that comes in 80 mg per 2mL has a volume of 2. Some liquid medications are prescribed as volume alone because they are only available in one strength. Common formulas for calculating medications are ratio and proportion, “desired over have”, and dimensional analysis. If you can remember these basic conversions, you should be able to pass these quarterly tests and use this knowledge throughout your nursing career.
